On Thursday, August 23, 2007, Nan was interviewed by Mary Alice Williams of the Retirement Living Network television show Daily Cafe. Information provided for the show follows.
Question: Nan, what exactly is a baby boomer and do they have time to travel?
The Baby Boomers are those people born between 1946 and 1964 who are the well established buyers of luxury travel and spa resort stays. Boomers are traveling with far more enthusiasm than previous generations. Older Boomers take 4.2 trips a year and younger Boomers 4.6 trips per year. Anti-aging treatment, exercise, relaxation and leisure activities are important to boomers.
Question: What are some of the innovative Spa Programs for Boomers?
I have tried to break the spas into categories based on price and programs offered.
Luxury Range (Northeast USA)
1. The Woodlands Spa at Nemacolin. This is in Farmington, Pennsylvania. Their special offering is called “TURNING POINT” and is available September 19th – 23rd. $3995 pp
Turning Point is an inclusive retreat program where guests are treated to much more than a vacation or getaway. A comprehensive variety of fitness classes, spa services, workshops, seminars, activities, excursions, and adventures are offered for guests to experience at their level of desire. For the September program, Nemacolin is hosting Jack Canfield, creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and who is also a contributor to the book, The Secret. In addition, guests are entitled to three 50-minute consultations with a medical doctor, a life coach, and a nutritionist. Delicious, healthy meals are also included. The price for one participant is $3,995. The price for a second participant staying in the same room is $2,500. There is no additional cost for a 2nd person staying in the same room that is NOT participating in the program (for example, someone’s husband), however all of those person’s expenses are á la carte.
What is included in the price? Four nights in Five Diamond accommodations in Nemacolin’s Falling Rock property, 24-hour butler service, all meals and non-alcoholic beverages, workshop with Jack Canfield, a $700 spa credit, group fitness classes, excursions such as hiking, biking, and rafting, rock climbing, tennis clinics, fly fishing lessons, workshops and seminars on topics such as meditation, nutrition, art (painting or drawing), self-image, cooking, and stress management. Each participant will receive a Turning Point tote bag, water bottle and other gifts.
Turning Point is an exclusive program and is meant to provide an individualized experience. Because of this, space in the program is limited to only 40 participants.
Although the Woodlands Spa is certainly built in as part of the program, Turning Point is much more than just a spa getaway! Anyone looking to understand more about his or her current state of health and well-being will benefit. For example a person who: wants to quit smoking, wants to lose/gain weight, wants to start eating better, wants more confidence in personal and/or work matters, wants to move, wants to learn how to calm the mind, someone recently separated or divorced, or someone looking for a stronger sense of self. This is an opportunity for guests to meet and work with skilled professionals in order to set and achieve short and long term goals.
New Face and Skin Rejuvenation Treatment- Soli-Tone
Not part of the Turning Point program, but targeted towards Boomers, The Woodlands Spa at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is offering a beauty treatment- Soli-Tone- a new approach to maximize facial rejuvenation by ways that are non-invasive. Soli-Tone can employ two forms of energy. Used together, the two energy sources provide optimal results, including greater wrinkle reduction, and tighter facial contouring.
Procedure Features
a. A light panel is positioned over the face.
b. Each light passes through the skin for 20 -30 minutes to stimulate cellular rejuvenation from inside.
c. Various colored light rays strike deep into the skin and help in collagen growth, tighten facial muscles and soften the appearance of wrinkles.
Visible results are achieved with the first treatment. The Soli-Tone gives fast muscle firming with deep micronized current product infusion. Photo rejuvenation is achieved at the same time. The LumiFacial and LumiLift functions offer pre-programmed settings and treat a range of skin conditions. There are two methods on the market to create rejuvenation: One is to heal and activate the fibroblast cells to create collagen and elastin and to activate the skin’s own healing defense system by immediately nourishing and changing damaged areas caused by sun, medications, acne, over drinking, extreme cold and heat, and genetics. Directing extreme super luminous diodes onto the skin is similar to the effect that has been achieved with grow lights on indoor plants. This light gives so much nourishment the cells just start multiplying. The other method being used is to first damage the deep layers of the skin with some type of extreme heat source, which eventually creates a healing response.
PRICING- 30 minutes - $90 includes a cleansing, Soli-Tone & moisturizer,
80 minutes - $230 includes a full facial with cleansing, exfoliations extractions, Soli-Tone treatment toner, and moisturizer.
