YOUR SEAT AT 30,000 FEET Posted:
Dear
I just returned from a plane trip and was absolutely "icked out" when I sat in my assigned seat. My seat smelled and was wet! I tried to change seats, but every seat on the plane was occupied. The flight attendant attempted to dry the seat with paper towels. I really felt like I was sitting in germs for 3 hours. What's up with planes these days?

Dear Emily:
Don't get me started! Let’s see...oily hair stains, hair spray residue, baby drool at the top, to the spilled foods, drink stains, and various forms of leakage at the bottom, plenty of aged perspiration which has seeped deep into the cushions. Oh yes, an airplane seat is far from a hygienic environment. Many scientists claim that the air, toilet, and water quality are the main culprits, but the airline seat and tray table, often overlooked, are also an issue. Germs do not just fly through the air, they also lurk on surfaces. As the airlines literally fight for economic survival, cost-cutting is the word. Airlines have reduced fleet sizes and passenger loading on aircraft is increasing to a record high, resulting in crowded aircraft, exposing travelers to more and more potential hazards. The ground crews are doing 'turnarounds' on aircraft as quickly as possible and steam cleaning seats is not always a priority. Unfortunately, the traveler is at the mercy of understaffed airlines. Bring along some antibacterial towelettes to wipe tray tables. I recommend carrying your own small blanket or an airplane cuddly which can put a healthy layer between you and the seat. Thin plastic seat covers are also sold, but a simple blanket, a large washable pashmina for women which doubles as clothing or the cuddly is less conspicuous.

AIRPORT PARKING "LOTS" OF STRESS Posted:

Dear William:
A lot of people never worry about airport parking...they drive to the airport eager to get on the plane, but unfortunately are often met with a horrible surprise, oops....no airport parking spots left! They drive into one lot and it is full, the second lot is full and so on and so on. They begin to "cuss" about the chap who double parked and hogged two spots or they try to figure out if they can get into that narrow spot and climb out through the trunk... it’s not going to happen! And, in the meantime, they are getting close to missing their flight as their blood pressure rises and stress and panic sets in. They finally pull into the highest priced lot and find only a few vacant spots for $30 a day and for your vacation that would add about $240 to "your trip"...so much for a deal! A new website called www.worryfreeairportparking.com is designed to help. It allows travelers to pre-book their airport parking in advance. When you enter the site you can select the departure airport and travel dates. The website then gives you a list of vendors for the selected airport. You can book a reservation and pay for the first day of parking online and a spot will be guaranteed for you. This website allows travelers to save time and save big bucks. The website services most of the major airports in the
